The Word Of God - Lesson III H

The Supremacy Of Christ

Having studied the humanity of Christ as the Second Adam, it is important for us to recognise that today Christ is seated with the Father in heaven.

We read of Christ’s supremacy in Colossians 1:15-20
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. And He is the Head of the Body, the Church; He is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything He might have the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all His fullness dwell in Him, and through Him to reconcile to Himself all things whether things on earth or things in heaven by making peace through His blood, shed on the cross.

                                        The Son Superior To Angels

We read that Christ is even superior to angels:

Hebrews 1:1-4
In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways. But in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed Heir of all things, and through whom He made the Universe. The Son is the Radiance of God’s Glory and the exact Representation of His Being, sustaining all things by His powerful Word.
After He had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. So He became as much superior to the angels as the name He has inherited is superior to theirs.

One Like The Son Of Man

John saw a vision of the Lord in Revelation 1:10-18
On the Lord’s Day I was in the Spirit and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet which said, Write on a scroll what you see and send it to the seven churches: To Ephesus, Smyrna, Perganum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia and Laodicea. I turned round to see the voice that was speaking to me and when I turned I saw seven golden lamp stands and among the lamp stands was Someone like a Son of Man, dressed in a robe reaching down to His feet and with a golden sash around His chest. His head and hair were white like wool; as white as snow, and His eyes were like blazing fire. His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace; and His voice was like the sound of rushing waters. In His right hand He had seven stars, and out of His mouth came a sharp double-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance. When I saw Him, I fell at His feet as though dead. Then He placed His right hand on me and said: “Do not be afraid, I am the First and the Last, I am the Living One; I was dead; and behold I am alive for ever and ever. And I hold the keys of Death and Hades.”

The Rider On A White Horse

John had a vision of the Lord which is still to be fulfilled in Revelation 19:11-13
I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a White Horse, whose Rider is called Faithful and True. With justice He judges and makes war. His eyes are like blazing fire, and on His head are many crowns. He has a Name that no-one knows but He himself. He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood and His Name is the Word of God

This ends Part III of our study. We will next look at the subjects of Water Baptism, Baptism in the Holy Spirit, Gifts of the Holy Spirit etc.
