The Importance Of God's Word

The Word Of God - Lesson I

                                The Importance Of God's Word

When studying the Word of God the first question we need to ask ourselves is:

Why do we need to study the Word of God?

The answer is:

The Word of God is not just an ordinary book but it is a Book whose Author is God Himself as we can read in:

II Timothy 3:16

All Scripture is God-breathed, and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

The next question we need to ask ourselves is:

As the Author of the Word of God does God value His Word?

The answer is:

God values His Word greatly as we can see from many examples in His Word. They are:

Psalm 12:6

And the words of the Lord are flawless, like silver refined in a furnace of clay, purified seven times.

Psalm 119:89

Your word, O Lord is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens.

Psalm 119:105

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.

Psalm 119:160

All Your words are true; all Your righteous laws are eternal.

Proverbs 30:5-6

Every word of God is flawless; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him. Do not add to His words, or He will rebuke you and prove you a liar.

Isaiah 40:8

The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands forever.

Matthew 4:4

Jesus answered, “It is written: Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.

This is a reference to:

Deuteronomy 8:3 where Moses was speaking to the Israelites saying:

He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your fathers had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.

Matthew 24:35

Heaven and earth will pass away but My words will never pass away.

I Peter 1:23-25

For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. For all men are like grass and their glory is like the flowers of the field, the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord stands forever.

From these verses we learn that God values His word greatly and we need to do likewise.
